The Lecture Series
The series of guest lectures on "the practical implications of human rights at sea" will be complementary to the course and will have a more pragmatic approach, aimed at addressing the empirical problems related to the application of human rights at sea, in particular within the context of law enforcement, protection of vulnerable categories of people and strategic litigation. The lectures will be formally separate from the course and will be open to all students of the University of Milano- Bicocca, also coming from departments different from the School of Law. Students attending the whole series will gain 1 credit.
The series will also be open to the participation of external attendants, including
Stakeholder, including civil servants;
Governmental officials;
National judges and lawyers;
Members of the armed forces;
Members of civil society, including the media.
The lectures will take place once a week in the late afternoon (5 pm) so as to allow also people working to attend. The lectures will be primarily targeted to the Italian public. For this reason, the lectures will be delivered mostly in the Italian language, so as to make the information accessible to those not familiar with the English language, including national judges and lawyers practising in the field of human rights. In order, in particular, to reach a broad audience of practising lawyers and judges, the lecture series will be accredited with the Milan Bar Association, as part of their continuing education programme. Creating synergies between academics and other stakeholders is one of the main objectives of the lecture series.
