European and International Human Rights at Sea

The European and international Human Rights at Sea (EHRAS) is a project co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus + Jean Monnet Action scheme and taking place at the University of Milan-Bicocca in Italy.
EHRAS looks at how European and international law can protect the human rights of all the people who are at sea. It aims to raise awareness on the legal aspects underlying the protection of human rights in the maritime space, exploring the multiple layers of this newly emerging field of research in international law.

The lecture series will address empirical problems related to the application of human rights at sea within the context of law enforcement, protection of vulnerable categories of people and strategic litigation.
An open conference gathering academics and practitioners from around the world meant to trigger debate among national and European law-makers.
EHRAS addresses three target categories:
university students;
legal practitioners and civil servants, including government officials and public authorities officers;
civil society actors such as NGOs and the media.
Accordingly, it aims to educate the future generations of lawyers and the global civil society, both at the national and European level, on the existing legal and political instruments to enforce human rights protection at sea worldwide.
